Forever Young reimagines sacrifice within contemporary beauty culture. Inspired by the Isenheim Altarpiece, the painting presents a woman as a modern martyr: her body marked by alteration and crowned with symbols of social media and the command to remain “Forever Young.” Around her, figures observe, judge, and record, while a young girl watches with concern.
There is nothing inherently wrong with wanting to change or improve something about ourselves. The conflict begins when improvement becomes a mandate—when the “should” comes from outside, the body becomes a battlefield, and aging an enemy to defeat.
The work reflects on a culture that can turn us from inhabitants of our own bodies into endless projects of reconstruction, while asking a more urgent question: what are we teaching the girls who are watching us?
