Ollantay’s Dream draws inspiration from the forbidden love between Ollantay and Cusi Coyllur. Ollantay, a celebrated general of humble origin, falls in love with the daughter of the Inca ruler Pachacutec, but their union is denied because of his social status. In Loaiza’s dreamlike interpretation, Cusi Coyllur rests peacefully beside Ollantay amid distant mountains and a watchful toucan. The luminous blue palette creates an atmosphere of memory and longing, while richly patterned Andean garments honor Peru’s Indigenous heritage. Ollantay’s Dream transforms their story into a tender meditation on love, separation, and hope beyond the boundaries of rank and power.
Ángel Loaiza
PeruÁngel Loaiza is a Peruvian painter whose work explores the rich cultural identity, traditions, and everyday life of Peru. His expressive figurative works bring together contemporary observation and the visual heritage of the Andes, often exploring themes of memory, human connection, and cultural identity.
A graduate of the Faculty of Art at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, he later studied classical painting at the Angel Academy of Art in Florence, Italy. Loaiza has exhibited internationally, with solo exhibitions in Peru, Belgium, and beyond, and currently lives and works in Lima.
