This series of three paintings explores the idea of a fourth narcissistic wound: the possibility that artificial intelligence will fundamentally challenge humanity’s sense of uniqueness and intellectual superiority.
Drawing on Sigmund Freud’s theory of three historical blows to human self-importance—Copernicus’s discovery that Earth is not the center of the universe, Darwin’s theory of evolution, and the discovery of the unconscious—the artist considers AI as a potential fourth blow.
Inspired by the proposed name Terminus for the first human city on Mars, the work reflects on humanity’s changing position in a world increasingly shaped by technology, questioning whether intelligence and creativity are truly exclusive to humans.
This series of three paintings was exhibited on a mural specifically created for the installation, as shown in the photographs. If you are interested in having the mural recreated in a specific location, please inquire by message.
