Sumo Sacerdote portrays the Inca high priest, or Willaq Umu, immersed in a sacred ritual. Emerging from an atmospheric field of deep blue, the spiritual leader extends his hands over swirling coca leaves—an important element in Andean ceremonial traditions. His elaborate headdress and large ear ornaments signify authority, wisdom, and ancestral knowledge, while the drifting leaves suggest communication between the earthly and spiritual realms. In the Quechua drama Ollantay, the high priest serves as a voice of foresight, compassion, and mercy. Through his distinctive blue palette, Loaiza honors the sacred practices of the Inca civilization and the enduring bond between humanity, nature, and the ancestral world.
