Catharsis emerged during a period in which everything familiar in my life was falling apart. The work represents the painful dissolution of an identity: a mask melting away like blood, exposing the possibility of becoming someone new.
Rather than portraying destruction as an ending, the painting explores it as a necessary passage. The collapse of what we believe ourselves to be can become an act of transformation—a catharsis through which another self is allowed to emerge.
